AFCON 2025: Super Eagles win third match
by The Eagle Online · The Eagle OnlineThe Super Eagles of Nigeria won their third match at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a 3-1 win over the Crane of Uganda at the Stade de Fez, Morocco on Tuesday.
The win ensured Nigeria earned the maximum nine points at the group stage and qualified for the knockout stage unscathed.
The Super Eagles took the lead in the 28th minute through Paul Onuachu from a Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s perfectly timed cross.
This was after Uganda’s goalkeeper had stopped an initial strike.
In the 56th minute, substitute goalkeeper Salim Magoola was sent off for handling the ball outside the box to deny a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

This resulted in a numerical advantage for the Super Eagles and saw Raphael Onyedika scoring twice in the 62nd and 67th minutes.
Onyedika was assisted on both occasions by Samuel Chukwueze.
Rogers Mato pulled one back for Uganda in the 75th.
The Super Eagles went into the encounter in Group C with two wins over Tanzania and Tunisia in hand.
