Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has said he will do everything possible to ensure Lionel Messi features at the next FIFA World Cup.

Scaloni made the remarks on Friday in comments shared via Fabrizio Romano’s X post, stressing both his desire and the player’s right to decide.

He said: “I’ll do everything possible for Messi to be there at the World Cup.“I think for the good of football he has to be there, but he’s the one who will decide.”

Messi, who plays for Inter Miami, has yet to confirm whether he will feature at the tournament following Argentina’s triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Scaloni’s comments reflect both optimism and restraint, as he balances national expectations with respect for the forward’s personal decision.

Fans across the world are awaiting clarity, with many hoping the Argentine captain will return for one more appearance on football’s biggest stage.

Meanwhile, Inter Miami have indicated that Messi is set to become part of a rare occurrence in global sport, with a stadium stand named in his honour while he remains an active player.

The club announced that the east stand of their new home, Nu Stadium, will be named the “Leo Messi Stand”.

This makes Lionel Messi the first active athlete in global sport to regularly play matches in a stadium that officially features a stand named in his honour.
