WAFU B U-20 Tourney: Flying Eagles seek early semifinal ticket
by The Eagle Online · The Eagle OnlineNigeria’s U-20 Boys, the Flying Eagles, will on Thursday seek an early passage into the semifinals of this year’s WAFU B U-20 Championship ongoing in the Ivorian city of Yamoussoukro when they confront the Sparrow Hawks from Togo in their second match of the group phase.
A sweet 4-2 win over West African rivals Ghana on Monday established the cup-holders at the top of Group B on goal difference.
This is ahead of Burkina Faso’s Young Stallions who trounced the Sparrow Hawks 3-1 on Monday.
While the Flying Eagles seek a win to make sure of a place in the last four ahead of Sunday’s potentially-explosive clash with the Stallions, the Sparrow Hawks will fight for a result to keep alive their hopes of remaining in the competition after the group phase.
A brace by Muiz Adeleke, both from the penalty spot, and one each by Olayemi Ayinla and Lucky Oraro, caged the Black Satellites, who scored also from the spot through captain Kelvin Nkrumah, after the same player had assisted Mohammed Zaidan with their first goal.

Coach Abdu Maikaba knows there is no room for error in Thursday’s clash as the cup-holders commit to their objective of earning a place at next year’s U20 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ghana.
Victory on Thursday will take Nigeria to six points, with early contenders Togo pegged back as the Flying Eagles countenance a fierce contest with the Young Stallions on Sunday.
