Egypt omit Salah from South Sudan clash over artificial grass pitch
by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineMohamed Salah will miss Egypt’s upcoming clash against South Sudan after the national team opted to rest the forward over concerns about the artificial grass pitch.
The Egyptian Football Association confirmed that Salah will not be part of the squad for Tuesday’s fixture, with the technical staff led by Hossam Hassan taking the decision as a precaution.
The Egyptian FA said: “The technical staff of the Egyptian national team, led by coach Hossam Hassan, has decided to rest Mohamed Salah for the match against South Sudan.
“The reason for this is the artificial grass pitch on which the match is being played.”
The decision was reportedly agreed between Salah and the coaching staff before Egypt’s previous Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Angola.
Salah played 60 minutes in Friday’s goalless draw against Angola, with the technical staff opting to manage his workload during the qualifying campaign.

Nice defender Mohamed Abdelmonem will also miss the trip to South Sudan.
Abdelmonem has a history of knee problems, with concerns over the demands of playing on an artificial surface contributing to the decision to leave him out of the travelling squad.
Egypt will therefore head into the fixture without two key players as Hassan’s side continues its 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
