Nikola Topic has testicular cancer

Sam Presti, General Manager of the Oklahoma City Thunder, shared that the Serbian point guard is undergoing chemotherapy

Sam Presti, General Manager of the Oklahoma City Thunder, has announced that Nikola Topic has testicular cancer.

The Serbian point guard, who has struggled with injuries in his short career, is undergoing a testicular procedure.

“He underwent a testicular procedure in the begining of the training camp. That procedure was necessary to determine if Nikola was dealing with a case of testicular cancer, and the results of the biopsy have returned and he is dealing with testicular cancer”.

Presti also had some “good” news regarding his case.

“He has a tremendous group of oncologyst and they are extremely positive, it is important to note that testicular cancer is the most cured of cancer amongst males. He has been recommended to undergo chemotherapy”.

The GM of the Oklahoma City Thunder also announced that he has already started this treatment.

“Topić did not want to disclose this information until he had started treatment, which he has recently”.

As expected, basketball is not the priority in this moment.

“He is here throughout the entire process, training, but we are all aware that this will be a demanding process. The medical team is positive regarding the long-term outcome. Currently, his recovery is the only priority.The only thing we expect from him is to focus on this. That is the priority. He will return and play basketball when he can, we have no expectations regarding that. He has our full support, love, and encouragement”.

In June 2024, the Oklahoma City Thunder selected Topić with the 12th overall pick in the NBA Draft. But just weeks before the draft, he suffered a partially torn ACL during the European playoffs, a devastating setback that sidelined him for months and made him unable to debut in the NBA yet.
