Newcastle United's remaining fixtures compared to Champions League rivals after Ipswich win

by · ChronicleLive

Newcastle United have boosted their Champions League hopes with a routine 3-0 win over Ipswich Town.

Newcastle had a man advantage in the first half when Ipswich defender Ben Johnson was shown a second yellow card in the 37th minute. Eddie Howe's side were able to make the most of the one-man advantage with Alexander Isak scoring from the penalty spot to make it 1-0 in first half added-time.

Newcastle made it 2-0 in the second half through Dan Burn before Will Osula made it 3-0 in the 80th minute. The result also confirmed relegation back to the EFL Championship for the Tractor Boys.

The victory sees the Magpies move up to third place in the Premier League table, two points clear of Nottingham Forest in sixth position. Forest do, however, have a game-in-hand with them in FA Cup action this weekend.
