Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben send Newcastle United messages after Carabao Cup final win
by Mark Wakefield · ChronicleLiveFormer Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has issued a message after the club's Carabao Cup final win.
Eddie Howe guided Newcastle to a 2-1 win over Liverpool in Sunday's League Cup final at Wembley Stadium. The victory came courtesy of goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak, as the Magpies won their first major domestic trophy in seven decades.
Ghodoussi was in attendance at Wembley to watch Newcastle win the trophy in the capital. The former Newcastle co-owner was joined by his wife, Amanda Staveley, who was also formerly part of the St James' Park hierarchy.
Staveley and Ghodoussi sold their six percent stake in Newcastle to the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) and the Reuben family last summer. This came three years after Staveley helped get the deal for the PIF to complete a takeover of the club from former owner Mike Ashley.
Hours after Newcastle's win at Wembley, Ghodoussi took to social media to sent a message to the club's fans. The post included a video of the Newcastle team celebrating with the trophy on the pitch.
"Amanda and I had a dream when we first came to Newcastle, that dream came true tonight," Ghodoussi wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Ghodoussi was not alone in sending a message after Newcastle's Carabao Cup final triumph. Jamie Reuben, co-owner of the Magpies, was alongside Ghodoussi and Staveley at Wembley Stadium and had a message of his own.
"What can I say except thank you [Newcastle]," Reuben wrote on X. "To the start of many." The post featured a photo of himself alongside Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, each wearing the club's home shirt and celebrating the victory at Wembley.
