Newcastle United make Alexander Isak transfer feelings clear as £85m striker 'put up for sale'
by Jake Stokes · ChronicleLiveLiverpool and Arsenal have been reminded that Alexander Isak remains 'untouchable' ahead of the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield and the Emirates Stadium for a while now, as he continues to impress for Newcastle United.
Isak, who sees his contract at St. James' Park expire in June 2028, has featured 25 times in the Premier League this season, scoring 19 goals and providing five assists. Playing a key role in Eddie Howe's side, he's fired the Magpies into the top six.
The Sweden international has also led Newcastle to the Carabao Cup final, finding the net in heavyweight ties against Chelsea and Arsenal en route to Wembley Stadium. His eye-catching displays haven't gone under the radar, with numerous top clubs said to be interested in securing his signature.
However, the Magpies have regularly made it abundantly clear that Isak is not for sale. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Gunners have grown 'obsessed' with the Swede while Liverpool remain keen.
"The priority target for Arsenal, but also Liverpool are closely monitoring the situation of Alexander Isak," claimed the Italian journalist. "So for sure, Liverpool and Arsenal will be in the mix for the player and it really depends on Newcastle and what they want to do in terms of price for the player.
"If you talk to Newcastle today, they insist the player is not for sale, the player is untouchable. But when these clubs arrive with important proposals, we have to see what kind of number they will give them. Forget about €70m to €80m – it must be more than this to convince Newcastle.
"But Arsenal and Liverpool will be there," added Romano, before revealing Darwin Nunez could leave Anfield three-years on from his £85m switch. "For Liverpool it will be a busy summer. But remember what I told you about Darwin Nunez, he is expected to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
"And Isak is one of the names they have on their list. But for Arsenal, it's an obsession, it's a player they've wanted for a long time, absolutely considered fantastic by Mikel Arteta so it's going to be an interesting one to follow."
When quizzed on his future at the end of last year, Isak insisted he's 'fully focused' in Tyneside. Speaking to Swedish publication Fotbal Skanalen, as quoted by 90min, he said: "Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season.
"There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn't affect me. I am commenting on my situation in Newcastle, and I have never had any problem there. I am fully focused on my task there and that we will have a fantastic season.
"There are still great opportunities for that. I have no thoughts about anything else. The only thing I can say is that a lot of information and rumours often come out. Much of what I read is not true. So that’s about all I can say about the whole thing."
