Liverpool boss Arne Slot showed his class moments before Newcastle United lifted the Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium.

The Magpies claimed a 2-1 win over the Merseyside club to win their first major domestic trophy since 1955.

Dan Burn and Alexander Isak scored the goals that secured the trophy for Newcastle as they etched their names into St James' Park folklore.

Federico Chiesa scored what proved to be a consolation goal for Liverpool, as Newcastle held on to win the Carabao Cup at Wembley.

Bruno Guimaraes wore the captain's armband and lifted the trophy alongside vice-captain Kieran Trippier before being joined in the celebrations by their teammates, Eddie Howe and the rest of the coaching staff, including Jason Tindall.

Before the trophy lift, the Liverpool players and staff, including Slot, made the walk up the steps at Wembley for their runners-up medals.

As the Liverpool players made their way onto the pitch, Slot stayed on the touchline, near the steps, to greet the members of the Newcastle squad as they walked up the steps to collect the trophy.

Slot was spotted shaking every Newcastle player's hand as they made their way up to the trophy presentation.

The Liverpool head coach was also joined by several members of the Reds squad, who also congratulated the Magpies on their victory in the final.

Newcastle will continue to enjoy their celebrations throughout the March international break, as they do not return to the pitch for two weeks.

Howe and Co. will look ahead to their Premier League clash against Brentford on April 2, which will be played at St James' Park in their first match after winning the club's first major trophy in 70 years.
