Sunderland players and coaching staff pose for a photo in front of the fans after beating Newcastle

BREAKING: Sunderland get Jason Tindall revenge as Newcastle immediately mocked after derby loss

by · ChronicleLive

Sunderland players and staff took aim at arch rivals Newcastle United following Sunday's huge Premier League win in the first Tyne-Wear top-flight derby in a decade.

Nick Woltemade's own goal seconds into the second-half at the Stadium of Light was the only difference to move Regis Le Bris' men up to seven in the Premier League table. It also lifts them four points above the Magpies after 16 games.

Post-match, amid the chaotic scenes among supporters, players and staffs took a team photo in front of their fans on the pitch. It comes two years after Newcastle did exactly the same after their 3-0 FA Cup win.

Back in January 2024, Jason Tindall brought members of Newcastle's medical, sports science and analysis teams onto the field to join the players in celebrating their FA Cup win. In front of 6,000 travelling fans, Tindall then called the club photographer over to take a team photo.

The Newcastle team photo has traditionally been posted on social media from the changing room. At the time, Alexander Isak admitted there was no better way to celebrate than in front of their fans.

Now, it's Sunderland who have the bragging rights. "Derbies are here to win," Granit Xhaka told Sky Sports. "It doesn't matter how, I know how painful it was two or three years ago losing here.

"They motivate us, because of this, much more than before. This team deserves much more than this respect because where we are is amazing. We work very hard and deserve to be where we are."
