Lewis Hall enjoys Newcastle United's dressing room celebrations despite missing out on Wembley trip
by Aaron Stokes · ChronicleLiveLewis Hall may have missed Newcastle United's Carabao Cup final win in the flesh but the injured left-back was still afforded the chance to enjoy the incredible post-Wembley celebrations from miles away.
The left-back played a crucial role in the Magpies reaching Sunday's final against Liverpool but a recent ankle injury cruelly robbed him of a run out at Wembley Stadium. With Hall only out of hospital in recent days, following surgery on his left foot, he enjoyed the 2-1 win from home rather than travelling with the squad to the capital.
However, Hall's Newcastle team-mates ensured he did not miss out, FaceTiming the defender from inside the United dressing room at full-time. Jamaal Lascelles was the man responsible for taking the youngster on a guided tour of the post-match festivities through his phone screen, with Jacob Murphy sharing an image of the gesture on his social media.
“Everybody played a part,” striker Callum Wilson told reporters before leaving Wembley on Sunday evening. “Even the players in the earlier rounds who got us here.
"Unfortunately, Lewis Hall, a great player for us this season, didn’t get to share the occasion but we did it today for the fans."
Many believed Hall had in fact been a part of the United celebrations on the pitch at full-time after supporters spotted a hooded member of the Newcastle bench hobbling onto the turf after the full-time whistle. However, this was actually member of United's backroom staff, who was wearing a moon boot on his right leg, while Hall has had surgery on his left ankle.
The former Chelsea youngster picked up the problem earlier in the season but had initially played through some minor pain before struggling through Newcastle's recent league defeat to Liverpool. It was then that the decision was taken to undergo surgery, subsequently cutting his campaign short.
"If I was to play through the pain, things could have got worse which would have a negative impact on my career long-term," Hall told United's media channels earlier this month. "Honestly, I would play through anything if I could. Obviously, the cup final is a massive game; I'd played in all the games leading up to it, and I'd like to think I've played a big part in us getting to this stage.
"And with the internationals coming up as well, it's disappointing that I'm not available to be selected for that - and that I can't play in the end of season games which ultimately will determine the competitions we play in (next season), whether we get in the Champions League.
"It's quite hard to accept at the minute but I'm still young and there are many opportunities ahead, I'm very confident in that."
