Newcastle United transfer 'target for sale' as Kieran Trippier interest resurfaces
by Matty Hewitt · ChronicleLiveNewcastle United continue to be linked with a number of incoming and outgoing signings this month as deadline day closes in.
Eddie Howe's side are not expected to be busy in terms of signings between now and the deadline on February 3rd, though could offload a number of fringe players in an attempt to boost their coffers come the summer. In an ideal world, Newcastle would be looking to strengthen their options this month and close in on a Champions League spot.
Miguel Almiron's impending departure for Atlanta United will free up further funds, though the Magpies are unexpected to act, unless the right opportunity becomes available.
With that in mind, Chronicle Live has taken a look at the latest transfer speculation doing the rounds as deadline day fast approaches.
Kieran Trippier viewed as potential Southampton alternative
Newcastle full-back Kieran Trippier has once again been linked with a move away from St. James' Park to Turkey this month. The English international was said to be a target for Super Lig club Besiktas last summer, though a move for the 34-year-old would not come to fruition.
Haber Sarikirmizi covers Yukup Cinar's comments, claiming the Magpies defender is on Galatasaray's list of targets this month at right-back. Southampton full-back Kyle Walker Peters is also said to be a target for the Turkish club, who are short of options at right-back following Serge Aurier's departure.
“The alternative to Kyle Walker-Peters is Kieran Trippier. The 34-year-old, who plays for Newcastle United, was recommended to Galatasaray by agents. He’s one of the alternatives at right-back,” said Çınar, a Turkish journalist.
Trippier has made 16 appearances for the Magpies this season and is said to have been recommended by agents.
Chronicle Live says: "Trippier is under contract at St. James' Park until 2026, but the Magpies may look to cash in on the veteran defender at some point before then. Tino Livramento has moved ahead of him in the pecking order at St. James' Park and it would make sense from a PSR point of view, though that's unlikely to be this month leaving Howe's side with little time to find a replacement."
Brighton 'willing to sell' Evan Ferguson
BBC Sport claim that Brighton would be willing to sell Republic of Ireland striker Evan Ferguson this month, if they receive a suitable offer. A number of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle, Arsenal, Man United and West Ham United have been linked with the 20-year-old this month.
Though Ferguson has made 12 appearances in the top flight this season, ten of those have been as a substitute having been overlooked by Fabian Hurzeler so far this season. The report claims the Seagulls had looked into a loan move for the young striker, who was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2022-23.
Bayer Leverkusen have also been linked with a transfer for the striker, whose only goal this season was in Brighton's draw with Wolves back in October and his next most recent goal was way back in November 2023.
Chronicle Live says: "Though Newcastle aren't expected to be busy this month, Ferguson is one they should be keeping an eye on. He'd fit the mould of a striker that Eddie Howe loves working with. He's got plenty of pace, power and hit ten goals in 25 appearances back in 2022-23. There's clearly a player in there and you'd back the Newcastle boss to get the best out of him. A summer move, if one does arise, appears the most likely."
