Bruno Guimaraes' honest Newcastle United dressing room 'nerves' claim as celebration explained
by Lee Ryder · ChronicleLiveBruno Guimaraes admits there were some "nerves" in the camp before and during Newcastle United's 2-0 win over Chelsea. The Brazil international's deflected strike sealed the points in what was dubbed a Premier League decider in terms of Champions League places.
However, Bruno admitted at times the game was a struggle as Newcastle failed to add to their early lead and left the door ajar to Chelsea. When asked if there were some nerves, he told Chronicle Live: "Of course. Nerves are normal.
"It is the end of the season. You know that anything can happen but I think we were positive in our own way. We should score the second one earlier in the game but we missed some opportunities. In the end 2-0 is OK, we didn't concede, scored two and let's now go for more.
"We're very happy, a 2-0 win over Chelsea is very good but we lost a little bit of control in the second half and we gave them too much time. But a win is a win."
Bruno's wild celebrations for the second resulted in him grabbing the corner flag and waving it furiously in the air. It looked like a Tino Asprilla tribute but he dedicated the goal to his mum!
He said: "We scored at the beginning and the end. It was a special one for me to score today, as it is Mother's Day in Brazil. It was important but now we must keep going with two matches to go. Overall, I am very happy."
Newcastle have dominated the headlines this week because of a possible change to the club crest. Bruno got passionate after the big win and said that waving the flag was a reflecting on the intense cauldron of noise they served up to help beat the Blues.
Bruno said: "It was! But more for the fans. I just want to say that this club belongs to Newcastle fans. That was part of my celebration today, flying that flag.
"With our fans it is like having an extra player. It made the difference for us today."
