Alexander Isak to Arsenal transfer truth as Newcastle United receive clear update
by Jack Flintham · ChronicleLiveNewcastle United have reportedly been informed that Arsenal would not be able to afford Alexander Isak in the January transfer window.
Isak has been one of United's most consistent players since arriving from Real Sociedad in August 2022. The striker has hit double figures in each season at the club and this year has been no different.
Unsurprisingly, such form has led to the rumour mill churning especially with Arsenal in clear need of a centre-forward. Presently, Mikel Arteta's side are lacking in the No.9 role, as was proven on Tuesday night when Isak and Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle a two-goal advantage after their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Newcastle need not fear the Gunners putting in an offer that could tempt them to sell Isak. It is understood that no price tag has been placed on the Swede as of yet but it would almost certainly be more than the £115m Chelsea paid Brighton and Hove Albion for Moises Caicedo.
Such a figure is well out of Arsenal's ballpark with their owner Stan Kroenke instead focusing on outgoings. It is understood Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Thomas Partey are all earmarked for exits by the summer at the latest.
However, it is not all good news for Newcastle fans. The report adds that while Isak is committed to the St James' Park club until 2028, the Magpies are not in a position to improve the terms of his contract due to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) concerns.
There is an understanding that Isak could earn more money away from Newcastle. But, the forward has spoken fondly about his love for the club.
"Playing football at this level has always been a dream and probably the main dream that I've had," he told Prime Video in Sweden recently. "Playing in the Premier League for a club like Newcastle with a fan base like they have here is extra special."
