Lit up NUFC sign appears in Newcastle ahead of cup final as city gets set for big game

by · ChronicleLive

With just days to go until the Carabao Cup final, a lit up NUFC sign has arrived right in the middle of town, as the whole city gets ready to be gripped by Wembley fever.

Newcastle haven't won a major domestic trophy for 70 years now, meaning the appetite for some silverware is bigger than ever, as Eddie Howe's men prepare to head to London for the second time in a week, following Monday night's 1-0 win against West Ham, to take on Liverpool in Sunday's final.

Given that Liverpool will want to bounce back from being dumped out of the Champions League at Anfield on Tuesday and are the runaway leaders in the league this season, they will surely go into the final as the favourites but, after being brushed aside 2-0 by Man United in 2023, Newcastle will be determined this is the time they go to Wembley and win.

Supporters will de descending on the capital en masse across the weekend, with pubs in London ready to welcome them, as fan zones back on home turf look set to be packed out. Pubs, hotels and even hair salons in Newcastle city centre have been getting in the cup final spirit with an array of eye-catching window displays and now Eldon Square have got in on the action, with lit up N U F and C letters going up inside the mall close to John Lewis and Boots.

Adorned by a black and white balloon arch, the illuminated letters will provide a great photo opp over the next few days and (hopefully!) into next week, after a Magpies cup win!

If you aren't sorted with a ticket for one of the paid for fan zones, there are a number with free entry across the city, including St James' Stack and The Old George, both of which will open at 10am, as well as Newcastle University.
