Thierry Henry blown away by Newcastle player during Carabao Cup win vs Liverpool - 'all the time'
by Matty Hewitt · ChronicleLiveFormer Arsenal star Thierry Henry was full of praise for Newcastle United defender Dan Burn after the Toon's Carabao Cup Final win over Liverpool.
It's been quite the week for the Magpies' defender having been called up to the England squad for the first time in his career by new Three Lions' boss Thomas Tuchel. Just days later, Burn was scoring the opening goal at Wembley Stadium to set Newcastle on their way.
The Blyth-born defender became the first Newcastle player since Rob Lee to score at the home of English football - a statistic that stretched back 25-years.
Henry was full of praise for Burn after the full-time whistle, claiming that the occasion wasn't the reason why the Newcastle defender was one of the best players on the pitch.
"He has been playing well for a long time and sometimes, I am very sorry, it's not because the game is big that suddenly his performance is big," Henry told CBS Sports Golazo during the American broadcaster's coverage of the game.
"He has been playing well for a long time. This guy has been a solid seven or eight out of ten all the time. For him and where he is from, this is a ten."
It's a sentiment that United supporters will wholeheartedly agree with having called for Burn after his performances this seasons.
The 32-year-old has been one of the standout performers for the Magpies this season and was every bit deserving of his place in the Tyneside history books.
Speaking about Burn's inclusion in the England squad for this month's World Cup qualifying games against Albania and Latvia, Tuchel said: "I was surprised that Dan [Burn] was never called up. He is such a tall guy but obviously it is easy to overlook him.
"It almost happened to me. I can tell you from these two phone calls from Jordan Henderson and Dan Burn, you instantly know that you picked the right guys."
