The wind might have tried its best to ruin Ladies Day in Newcastle, but it was no match for the stunning headwear out in force at the Racecourse on Saturday. And here we round up our favourites from the fabulous array of hats we spotted.

Thankfully, the forecast for rain that was looking very ominous earlier on in the week improved as we edged closer to Ladies Day. But instead of showers, racegoers in Gosforth were instead subjected to strong winds, which reached such a force that a parasol was blown onto a bench of people sitting in the crowd within an hour of gates opening.

But we Geordies are made of strong stuff and there was no way that Tyneside's fashionistas were going to let it dampen their style or ruin their day. As soon as gates opened at the Racecourse around 11am, Newcastle ladies once again proved they had a head for fashion, with some attention-grabbing headwear coming strolling in early doors.

A ChronicleLive photographer was there early doors to capture all the arrivals before then heading into all the Enclosures, with a keen eye on the other fantastic hats that soon appeared all over the course. Obviously, we can't photograph every single person who was at Ladies Day.
