“I have a dream” – Celtic player talks up transfer wish after ‘best season’ with O’Neill’s side

Celtic’s Benjamin Nygren says he’s having the best season of his career with Martin O’Neill’s side and leaves door open to leave Celtic Park.

The Sweden international moved to Celtic in June 2025, after spending over three years at FC Nordsjælland.

In his final season in Denmark, he managed 16 goals and four assists from 32 matches. This convinced Celtic to bet on him, when Brendan Rodgers was in charge.

He managed five goals and four assists from 16 matches for Celtic under Rodgers, who left the club in October. At that time, Nygren said he was ‘sad’ with Rodgers’ decision to leave.

O’Neill utilised him in the middle of the pitch and as an attacking midfielder, and he starred under his orders, managing 11 goals and two assists.

He has 19 goals and seven assists from 48 matches for Celtic and numbers in the league are given below.

Celtic player dreams of move to top league

Sportbladet interviewed Benjamin Nygren to discuss his season so far with the Bhoys and other topics.

“It has been a really good season for me personally. The best of my career and I feel like I have been given exactly the role I wanted at Celtic. I can be creative from my position in midfield, create a lot going forward and individually it has been a good season,” he said.

“Team-wise it has been a bit tough, but we hope and believe that we will win the league this year.”

The 24-year-old’s versatility and overall performances for Celtic have led to transfer links.

The newspaper mentions Manchester United as the rumoured club, and these links please the player. In fact, he leaves the door open for a future move away from Celtic.

“It’s really just fun and a sign that you’ve done something good. I’m always humble, I’m always working hard to get better every day and I really enjoy Celtic,” Nygren explained.

“But like every other footballer, I have a dream to get as far as possible with my football and play in the biggest leagues.”

Although he talks up desire to move to a big leave, Celtic’s stance on his potential sale isn’t known yet.

Benjamin Nygren’s contract lasts until 2030, and his value, as per Transfermarkt, when he joined Celtic was €6m. It rose to €6.5m in December and jumped to €10m in March.

Agency HCM Sports Management represents the Celtic player, managed by agents Hasan Cetinkaya and Ali Dursun. They have a long client list, and it includes Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.
