Director reveals agent offered Aston Villa player and Chelsea man to club – Explains reason for snubbing duo
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessInter Milan were offered opportunities to sign Aston Villa’s Marco Asensio and Chelsea’s João Félix in the winter market.
That’s according to Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio, and he revealed this during a chat with Sport Mediaset. His comments are relayed by Alfredo Pedullà.
The 29-year-old joined Aston Villa on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, while Chelsea let Félix join AC Milan on loan.
Asensio failed to have a prominent role under Luis Enrique with the French club this season. In search of regular playing time, the Spain international decided to leave PSG for Aston Villa.
Enzo Maresca didn’t utilise the 25-year-old Portugal international regularly since the Blues signed him on a permanent transfer from Atlético Madrid last summer.
The two players are represented by Jorge Mendes and before moving Asensio and Félix to Aston Villa and Milan respectively, he offered the duo to the Nerazzurri. The director has explained why Simone Inzaghi’s side snubbed the Aston Villa player and the Chelsea man.
“The rumours are mainly related to what are the activities of the agents, who when they have to move some players obviously make phone calls,” he said.
“When you have an important player like Asensio or João Félix, so I also respond to those who say that Inter had started negotiations for the Portuguese. It’s normal that the intent of the agent is to put opportunities within the market.”
“Agents, having to work but also to show their clients that they are working hard to find opportunities, also make phone calls to Inter but we have been clear with everyone. We have always told everyone that we were OK up front.”
“Then, if there had been some exit, we would have thought about what solutions the market would have brought us to complete the squad, having clear in mind the idea that we have always had in our minds, which is to have two players for each role. Inter in recent seasons have been built to compete.”
The former Real Madrid man has made three appearances for Unai Emery’s side since his arrival.. Félix has played five matches for Milan, scoring a goal.
