Ousmane Diakité: Midfielder says West Brom in talks to sell him despite renewal

by · Sport Witness

West Bromwich Albion’s Ousmane Diakité can leave the Championship side despite having a brand new contract.

The Malian arrived at West Brom on a free transfer in 2024, after spending at 18 months at TSV Hartberg.

At that time, he signed a two-year contract, with an option for another year. Two days ago, the English club confirmed they’ve activated that and his contract now runs until 2027.

On Wednesday, the defensive midfielder expressed his delight after committing his future to West Brom.

“This place feels like home. I love West Bromwich Albion, I love the fans and I love the people that work here,” he told their official website.

However, the contract extension and his love for the club will not necessarily mean he will still be at The Hawthorns next season.

Not ruling out West Brom summer exit

Africa Foot have interviewed the 25-year-old to discuss his renewal and also his plans for the future.

Ousmane Diakité now suggests West Brom exercised the option for another year to avoid letting him leaving the Championship club for free.

“Even though other clubs are interested, the one-year option has been activated, and negotiations will continue with interested clubs during the next summer transfer window to ensure we don’t miss this opportunity,” he said.

The Baggies midfielder confirmed multiple teams keen on securing his services in the summer, without revealing their details.

He further added the English club are in talks with every interested party, to discuss his potential sale.

“Yes, of course, before the start of this season, several Saudi clubs expressed interest, with some even going so far as to revise their offers. I also received offers from England and France,” Diakité explained.

“However, having reached specific agreements before extending my contract with West Bromwich Albion, it was imperative to honour those commitments. That is why this announcement was made, as it is a step toward preparing for the future.

“God willing, I hope the next transfer window will be fruitful. My club is currently in negotiations with all interested clubs. My agent will then take care of the rest. God willing, we’ll have good news this summer, as several clubs have expressed interest in signing me.”

Ousmane Diakité’s value and agent info

West Brom have appointed James Morrison as their interim manager, after parting ways with Eric Ramsay. The next West Brom permanent manager may have a say on Ousmane Diakité’s future beyond this season.

Transfermarkt value him at €800k, which is way below his true worth, and his summer sale will allow the club to make profit. In the Championship this season, he’s played 1,701 minutes from 28 appearances, including 18 starts.

The player is represented by 12 Management, and agency owned by Frédéric Kanouté.
