From Germany: What’s happening with Leeds United and Nico Elvedi – Source shares info
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessBorussia Monchengladbach are yet to receive an official offer from Leeds United for Nico Elvedi, despite reports Daniel Farke’s side are willing to pay €8.5m for him.
Rheinische Post report on the 29-year-old centre-back today. They insisted that Borussia hold all the cards when it comes to selling the defender this summer.
Leeds United interest at €8.5m
Nico Elvedi is currently at the World Cup with Switzerland, where he has started all of their games as they’ve reached the last 16 of the tournament.
He’s now a mainstay in the Switzerland team, as he is for Gladbach, where he is their defensive lynchpin. Last season saw him rack up the most minutes of any player at the club, playing 33 games and missing just one game through suspension.
That reliability makes him valuable, and Rouven Schröder, Borussia’s sporting director plans to keep it in mind when suitors come knocking.
Sport Witness have already covered a report stating that Leeds are willing to pay €8.5m for the defender this summer. But according to the newspaper, no official or concrete offer has been made by them or anyone else yet.
No concrete offer submitted
Monchengladbach are hoping to secure a transfer fee in double digit millions for their player. According to their information, the German side hold the advantage too as a clause in the defender’s contract has now expired. Nico Elvedi’s transfer fee is now open to negotiate.
They do not consider the player unsellable by any means. But they want a good fee to let a key player depart this summer. Elvedi, for his part, hasn’t made his mind up about his future. He is sounding out the market, using the World Cup to his advantage.
Any decision is not likely to be made until the tournament is over. There’s no rush from Elvedi or Borussia despite his current deal expiring in 2027.
Borussia would like to keep him and plan to offer him a new deal. Elvedi needs to decide whether he wants to remain where he is or, at 29, take on a new challenge. If it’s the latter, he’d prefer it to be in the Premier League.
Leeds United have signalled an interest already, but for now haven’t moved or made any concrete offer for him.
