Aston Villa initiate contact with agent over signing 25-year-old in January

by · Sport Witness

Aston Villa have set their sights on Fenerbahce left winger Oğuz Aydın and have already reached out to his agent about a move.

Journalist Sercan Hamzaoğlu reports that Aston Villa have been in contact with the 25-year-old’s agent and other parties ahead of a potential move.

Aydin has been one of Fenerbahce’s star performers this season, with three goals and three assists in 16 games so far.

He’s been particularly impressive in the Super Lig in recent weeks, bagging a goal and two assists in his last three games. He also managed a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Samsunspor earlier this season.

The winger joined the Turkish side in a €6m deal in 2024. Since then, he’s managed 10 goals and 15 assists in 85 games for them.

Premier League interest

And it seems that record has aroused Premier League interest. Sport Witness reported in January this year that Aston Villa were showing an interest in the forward.

Indeed, reports at that time stated Aston Villa could advance their interest after a transfer meeting. That never happened, nor did they return in the summer transfer window. But it appears that their interest has not gone away.

In fact, Hamzaoğlu reports that Aston Villa have been in contact with the player’s agents to discuss a potential move. He also mentions ‘various other parties’ being contacted.

There is no mention of a fee or anything of that nature at this moment in time. Aydin is currently valued at €9m by the likes of Transfermarkt.

Garnacho replacement?

Chelsea’s Argentine attacker Alejandro Garnacho

The question is whether Aston Villa would be targeting another winger at this point.

They already have Alejandro Garnacho, George Hemmings, Ibrahim Mbaye and Alysson as wide options in Unai Emery’s squad.

Of those, Garnacho would be the one that Aydin would likely be replacing. He’s currently only on loan at Villa Park from Chelsea. And early indications have been that the loan deal could be ended in the January transfer window.

If that is the case, perhaps Aston Villa are already planning ahead and reviving an old interest from the January transfer window.
