Manchester United very keen on Ajax rising star – Newcastle United could enter picture
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessManchester United are the side ‘most keen’ on Ajax youngster Jorthy Mokio but could face competition from Newcastle United.
That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri. He says the Premier League duo are ready to move for the Ajax youngster.
The journalist explains that 17-year-old Mokio is currently generating a lot of discussion in Amsterdam. Ajax are actively trying to extend the defender’s contract. But he doesn’t seem convinced by the club’s current sporting project.
Instead, he would like to take the next step in his career. And this is being seen as a clear signal to his suitors.
Manchester United are one of the most keen. Their recruitment team is following the player very closely and see him as a profile that is perfectly suited to the club’s new direction. They want to focus on youth and potential with significant room for improvement.
Manchester United could face Newcastle United competition
Manchester Untied aren’t alone in the race, though. Newcastle are also closely monitoring Mokio’s situation. According to Tavolieri, the Magpies want to bolster their defence with high potential players and Mokio fits the bill.
Eintracht Frankfurt are also involved. And they could be tempting for him with their renowned youth development program. Mokio will choose his future club based on the sporting project presented to him. His aim is for maximum playing time.
Further developments are expected in the coming weeks, particularly in the January transfer window. Newcastle and Manchester United will be in the mix if that happens.
