Nottingham Forest attempt for “plan A” manager – Door remains open if Ange fails

by · Sport Witness

Nottingham Forest made a concrete attempt to hire Abel Ferreira in September, according to ESPN Brazil.

The report states that the club approached the Portuguese coach right after Nuno Espírito Santo’s dismissal. Abel turned down the offer, choosing to stay with Palmeiras as he prepared to renew his contract and lead the club through the season’s decisive stages.

That renewal is now close to being signed, extending his stay until December 2027. The new agreement reportedly includes no penalty clause, for either side. This means Abel can leave freely if a project convinces him, or he could be sacked without compensation.

Such freedom could be decisive if Nottingham Forest knock on his door again.

The English club then turned to Ange Postecoglou after Abel’s refusal. The Australian, however, has yet to win a match. His record stands at five defeats and two draws, and pressure is increasing around him. If Nottingham Forest decide to make a change, Abel’s name will naturally return to the discussion.

Since arriving at Palmeiras in 2020, the 46-year-old coach has overseen 384 matches and won ten trophies, including two Copa Libertadores titles and back-to-back Brazilian league crowns.

For now, he remains focused on his current club, as Palmeiras are still fighting for two major titles this season. His future beyond that remains open.
