‘Arsenal tempting’ – Player handling firm offer from Gunners, already opened exit door

Julián Alvarez

Arsenal are one of the strong contenders to sign Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez in the summer.

Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Arsenal are still on the lookout for the striker.

The Spanish press continues to discuss the Premier League side’s interest in the Atlético star, who is also on Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain’s agenda.

Diego Simeone’s side overcame Real Sociedad in a penalty shootout to win the Copa del Rey final at the weekend. Álvarez’s 83rd minute goal helped his side score the crucial equaliser.

With that goal, the Argentina international took his tally to 19 goals and nine assists from 47 matches this season.

His La Liga stats are as follows:

  • Appearances: 29
  • Starts: 22
  • Total minutes: 1,902
  • Goals: 8
  • Assists: 4
  • Expected Goals: 7.70
  • Expected Assists: 5.13
  • Big chances created: 10
  • Big chances missed: 8

Barcelona face PSG and Arsenal threat

The La Liga winners are prioritising the 26-year-old and Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni for the summer.

That’s according to Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, who also report a report on Arsenal and PSG’interest in Julián Álvarez.

In his recent interviews, the World Cup winner hasn’t closed the door on leaving Atlético Madrid.

The newspaper relays his earlier quotes and insists he’s already open to changing clubs after this season.

The South American is aware multiple clubs are showing interest, ‘but more seriously, he has three strong offers to make a move this summer.’

Barcelona, Mikel Arteta’s side and the Ligue 1 winners are immediately named.

Mundo state ‘Arsenal is a tempting club for Julián’ but the former Manchester City man has no huge desire to return to the Premier League. PSG’s offer is attractive, both sporting wise and financially, while Ligue 1’s limited international appeal remains a concern.

At the Camp Nou, he would be the main striker, taking over from Robert Lewandowski. If the Pole were to stay, he would be a backup for Álvarez. Therefore, the Barca’s offer appeals more than the Gunners and PSG.

Hansi Flick’s side remain confident of reaching an agreement with the player and have set a €100m limit for the transfer fee. There’s hope Los Rojiblancos won’t demand more than that for the frontman.

Contract, value and agent info

Julián Álvarez’s contract runs down until 2030, and Transfermarkt value him at €90m.

Agent Fernando Hidalgo is representing the South American, who could potentially be one of the big signings for the next window.
