Wrexham meeting to buy Manchester City player – Talks held this week
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessManchester City let Issa Kaboré join Wrexham via a season-long loan deal on summer deadline day.
The Burkina Faso international has so far played 1,472 minutes from 20 matches in all competitions for Wrexham.
His future after this season needs sorting, especially since his contract at Manchester City expires in 2027.
Africa Foot cover the latest on where the current Wrexham man could play next season.
The right-back arrived at the Etihad from KV Mechelen in July 2020 and Pep Guardiola’s side immediately sent him back on loan to Belgium. He hasn’t made an appearance for Manchester City so far.
That’s because the Premier League side sent him on loan to Troyes, Marseille, Luton Town, Benfica, Werder Bremen and Wrexham.
Kaboré’s failed loan spells
He struggled during his time with the Eagles. Back in 2024, Sport Witness covered claims from Portugal that his lack of quality was visible from his first match with Benfica.
Kaboré’s loan stay at Benfica was cut short in January 2025, and Manchester City then let him join Werder Bremen. His situation didn’t improve in Germany, where he played 304 minutes from nine matches.
The Manchester City owned player has enjoyed minutes at Wrexham and Africa Foot now state that’s enough to convince the Welsh club’s coaching staff and their management.
The Championship side are now sixth in the table and are in firm contention to secure a promotion to the Premier League via play-off.
Wrexham want to buy Manchester City man
Meanwhile, Wrexham are making moves to extend Kaboré’s stay beyond this season. Within the club, the ‘message is clear; securing the Burkina Faso right-back is a strategic priority’.
Africa Foot report Wrexham have scheduled a meeting this week with various parties to try and move this deal forward.
Manchester City, for their part, are open to selling the defender in the summer for €2-4m, but the price would be a concern for Phil Parkinson’s side.
Despite this, the outlet say Wrexham are ‘prepared to seriously consider’ buying Kaboré.
