Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak quizzed by Swedish media on Arsenal and Liverpool claims
by Sport Witness · Sport WitnessJust like most of his Newcastle United teammates, Alexander Isak is still in something of a whirlwind after the Magpies beat Liverpool to win the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
There’s multiple Newcastle players who haven’t returned to the city since that match, instead having to quickly go away on international duty.
Isak has been in the news more than most of his Newcastle United teammates recently, with endless claims about interest from other clubs. The UK media has been strongly linking Liverpool and Arsenal, with the latter thought to have interest dating back back to when the Swedish international was still at Real Sociedad.
In Spain, it’s Barcelona being linked although it’s not thought that they could cover the fee needed. Meanwhile, the media closest to Newcastle United has been talking about a growing club desire to keep Isak and potentially tie him down to a new deal.
Currently in Marbella with the Sweden squad, Isak was asked by Fotbollskanalen about all that interest, and said: “There’s not much to say, really. I’ve commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times. It’s been written how much I love the city and the club, how well I feel there. I’m not thinking about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle. Now we won the cup, but we want to finish strong and reach the Champions League games. That’s where my focus lies.”
That’s obviously not ruling anything out or in for the summer and that qualification for the Champions League could be key, otherwise playing in the competition for Liverpool or Arsenal would be an added attraction.
Isak also made clear how much he’s looking forward to returning for more cup celebration: “Things like that can’t be described. I think you can only “imagine” how it feels. But it’s an incredible feeling. Wembley packed with all the Newcastle fans there. I’m looking forward to seeing what Newcastle is like as a city after that. I haven’t been back yet.”
