Player waiting for Everton or Crystal Palace offers to arrive – Both in contact
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessEverton and Crystal Palace are yet to make official offers for Genk’s Zakaria El Ouahdi, despite reports of their interest.
That’s according to Africa Foot. They have spoken to ‘exclusive sources’ close to the player amid reports of interest from Crystal Palace and Everton.
A report this week stated that both Premier League sides were keen on the right-back. They stated that Crystal Palace were leading the race for him after he already snubbed Everton. A deal worth €10-12m was being considered.
Africa Foot now pick up on that. Their sources report that the Moroccan international does continue to attract ‘significant interest’ from several European clubs as the January transfer window approaches.
A source ‘very close’ to the player confirmed that El Ouahdi has yet to receive any official offers form England or Spain, though. Suitors such as Everton and Crystal Palace have only made enquiries regarding the financial and sporting conditions of a potential transfer.
The same source insists that they face competition too. Wolfsburg in Germany and Stade Rennais in France have, in the past, expressed interest in the player. Wolverhampton Wanderers have also closely monitored him and Benfica put in an official offer in the summer as well.
One destination he won’t be going to is Russia. The same source reports that his father, who is also his agent, has ‘categorically ruled out’ that destination. Russian clubs are willing to match Genk’s demands, but he has said no. They favour a sporting projected in a major Western European league.
It’s also confirmed that Genk are open to a deal, for the aforementioned €10-12m. Eyes are now on Crystal Palace and Everton to see if they make official offers.
