Chelsea finalising recovery phase – Winger nearing return ahead of July arrival
by Pedro Reinert · Sport WitnessChelsea loanee Geovany Quenda is nearing a return to action after more than two months out, with his rehabilitation taking place in London rather than Lisbon.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the 18-year-old is in the final stages of recovery at Cobham following surgery to the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. He has not featured since Sporting’s trip to the Estadio da Luz, but his comeback is now described as imminent.
Quenda, who will officially join Chelsea in July after his agreed transfer, has been following a detailed recovery plan overseen by the Premier League club.
The report states Chelsea have adopted a careful and structured programme focused not only on his competitive return, but also on medium and long-term physical protection.
There has been no rush. The process is said to be progressing positively, without unnecessary risks.
Chelsea overseeing recovery plan
The expectation is that Quenda will travel back to Lisbon in the first week of March. From there, he should gradually resume training at Sporting’s academy in Alcochete.
However, the key point is that Chelsea have kept him in London for the decisive phase of rehabilitation. That underlines how closely they are managing one of their long-term assets.
The focus now is on rebuilding confidence, rhythm and competitive intensity. If all goes to plan, Quenda could start accumulating minutes during March. Sporting see him as a potential boost for the decisive stretch of the campaign.
Language work and July integration in sight
The London spell has not been limited to gym and physiotherapy work. A Bola add that Quenda has been using the period to improve his English, making a conscious effort to speak the language daily with friends, teammates and family.
That detail matters. From July, he will integrate into Chelsea’s squad permanently. The linguistic adjustment is already underway.
In the meantime, he remains emotionally connected to Sporting CP, following first-team and B-team matches closely while completing recovery work.
For Chelsea, the priority is clear. Protect the investment, ensure full fitness, and prepare him properly for Premier League demands. The next step comes in early March. The bigger one arrives in the summer.
