Tottenham target ‘cries too much’ – Emotional attacker told to kick doors instead

by · Sport Witness

Tottenham Hotspur target Samu has been told he needs to stop crying and start kicking doors instead.

A Bola have the opinion on him today. And the feeling is that the Porto striker needs to start letting anger be his overriding emotion.

The 21-year-old has impressed in Portugal since moving to Porto in 2024. He has 46 goals in 73 games for the Portuguese giants to date.

That’s already seen him linked with the Premier League. Tottenham and Chelsea were named as suitors back in November. Tottenham were then spotted scouting him later that month as well. At 21-years-old, he appears to have a bright, interesting future ahead of him.

But there is one lingering problem, at least for A Bola’s editor: his emotions. And It was another emotional week for the striker this week. He missed his second penalty in a row against Plzen. Frustrated by that, he was seen being emotional at the end of the game.

It’s not the first time he’s done so either. Last season, Porto’s elimination from the cup also saw the tears flowing. Crying, it seems, has become something of a norm when things get difficult.

And that doesn’t impressing Hugo Vasconcelos, who wants the striker to change his approach in future. He believes the Tottenham target ‘cries too much’ and needs to channel frustration a different way.

“I think it’s a terrible sign for a player to cry at the end of a match, especially if he didn’t lose a final, or if it’s not the last game of the season and he knows he’s leaving,” he said.

“I prefer those who react with anger, who kick the locker room door or curse anyone who approaches. It has the same meaning of caring about failure but shows more willingness to react.

“Tears don’t bring anything good. They aren’t a problem in themselves, but they foreshadow some emotional instability, some difficulty in dealing with adversity.”

Some emotion, however it comes out, may be better than none at all.
