Agent key to build Liverpool summer exit – Same representative as Manchester City player
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessLate in the January transfer window, Inter Milan attempted to sign Liverpool’s Curtis Jones. Sport Witness repeatedly covered the short-lived saga, and the deal never materialised.
That was mainly because the Reds first wanted to extend the midfielder’s current contract on Merseyside. The player’s hesitation made sure that he stayed, even if he was seen as a replacement for Davide Frattesi. As a result, the Italian’s transfer to Nottingham Forest also fell through.
Since then, Jones has started only once in the Premier League for Liverpool. That might not indicate anything alarming but a summer exit remains on the cards.
This has now been confidently claimed in Italy.
Inter still in for Liverpool player
Today’s Corriere dello Sport reports Inter manager Cristian Chivu fell in love with Jones when the two teams met in the Champions League.
The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes, helping Liverpool in a 1-0 win. Chivu’s liking for him is probably why the Nerazurri pursued a January move in the first place.
The Romanian remains keen and would like Inter to make another attempt in the summer. In the meantime, the Serie A leaders have strengthened their relationship with Jones’ entourage.
The Liverpool player has the same agents as Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji, who is expected to join Inter permanently in the summer. This common connection can help in a deal, especially if Frattesi leaves at the end of the campaign.
Jones could be a cut-price deal
The England international’s current contract at Liverpool runs out in the summer of 2027.
That can make a deal for Inter relatively cheap in 2026. That could be quite an exciting move, largely because Jones is still very much at the right age. He is at the peak of his powers and offers more technical ability than Frattesi, who is more of an outlet in the final third.
A lot can depend on Liverpool’s demands. The Reds aren’t known to let their players leave on the cheap.
