Hammarby IF confirm Swansea City talks – Not only Championship club keen
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessHammarby IF’s sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg has confirmed that manager Kim Hellberg is in London as he’s in talks for the Swansea City job.
Fotboll Skanalen have comments from him today after a report earlier on Friday stated Hellberg had travelled to England to meet with Swansea. Reports throughout this week have linked Hellberg with the vacant Swansea City position.
FS now follow that up and say Swansea City are targeting the 37-year-old, but they are one of several Championship sides interested the Hammarby boss.
Mikael Hjelmberg has now confirmed that his manager is in London. That, though, is something they’re aware of.
“It’s no secret that he is in London. He has kept us updated on everything, so everything is under control there,” he said.
In fact, according to the Hammarby boss, they both spoke yesterday and dialogue has remained opened on the matter.
Swansea City ambitions understood
“It was nice and good as usual and there are no secrets between us in any case. Kim is doing extremely well in Hammarby, but we also know that he has dreams and ambitions,” he added.
Hjelmberg was also keen to emphasise that there is nothing down with Swansea at this moment in time.
“If we end up there, it is absolutely not certain,” he concluded.
“But it is clear that we need to have some form of preparedness, and we have had that for quite some time. It is no secret that there has been interest in Kim for a long time.”
It appears then, that Hjelmberg is waiting to see what happens like everyone else. It’s clear Swansea are talking to Hellberg, but he is likely to be one of several options being considered.
We’ll wait for more information before getting too excited on the Swans part, then. But things are certainly moving, and seemingly with the permission of Hammarby too.
