Leicester City make move for Benfica youngster – Loan with buy option on the table
by Pedro Reinert · Sport WitnessLeicester City have set their sights on Benfica youngster João Rego and have already contacted the Portuguese club to negotiate a loan with an option to buy, according to A BOLA.
The Championship side remain in the hunt as the Eagles are yet to make a decision, with other suitors, including Tondela, also showing interest.
Leicester City anager Martí Cifuentes is said to be keen on the 20-year-old’s profile, with plans to use him either as a No. 10 or a second striker should the move go through.
The Lisbon giants, meanwhile, are working on a contract renewal for Rego, whose current deal runs until 2028, and intend to set a €100m release clause.
Rego has been left out of Bruno Lage’s squad for the first three matches of the season. He made 13 senior appearances and scored once in the last campaign, and a loan exit is currently seen as the most likely path for his immediate future.
