Amorim target for Manchester United likened to Bukayo Saka – Big praise as transfer rumours grow
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessManchester United target Geovany Quenda is similar to Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka at a young age, and one of the stars of the future.
That’s according to Fábio Roque, the former assistant manager of Sporting’s youth teams, who has heaped praise on the 17-year-old rising Sporting Club de Portugal star to O Jogo today.
Quenda has been impressing for Sporting again this season, with two goals and two assists in 19 games so far after making his debut under Ruben Amorim in August.
He’s already found himself in the senior Portuguese set up, but is yet to make his debut, and has a list of big clubs in Europe keeping an eye on him.
Manchester United, courtesy of Amorim, are believed to be one of them and a report yesterday even went as far as to suggest they are readying a €60m bid to take him to Old Trafford and reunite him with Amorim.
In the meantime, he continues to shine for Sporting, with Manchester United likely to be one of the sides following him as they take on Arsenal in the Champions League.
That’ll see him come up against Saka, who has enjoyed a similar rise with Arsenal in recent years, and whom Roque believes is the man Quenda should be getting likened to.
“I understand the comparison [with Lamine Yamal], but Geo covers a lot more ground. He is very committed in defensive moments and duels,” he said.
“He plays so well there [corridors] because the space he covers on the field is enormous. Geo demands a lot of himself in defensive moments, in terms of closing down, recovering quickly and winning duels for his teammates.
“He reminds me of Saka at the beginning of his career when he played on the wing. There is only one Geovany Quenda, he is different from any other player I have coached.
“He could leave a mark on football that is totally different. We are talking about, together with Lamine Yamal and Estêvão Willian, the best players of that generation born in 2007.”
