Brazen offer for Liverpool player mocked by agent – Iraola wants to take close look

by · Sport Witness

For weeks, Juventus pursued a move for Liverpool‘s Alisson. A deal didn’t go through but some details of the Italian club’s approach have now emerged.

Sport Witness covered how the Old Lady were relying on the player’s desire to join them to engineer a transfer. He agreed personal terms with Juve but the Reds’ demands proved too much.

As a result, a move never materialised and the Bianconeri remain on the hunt for a goalkeeper.

Agent David Lavelle has now opened up about the details, offering insight into the numbers of the failed move.

Juve offer laughed off

The agent and intermediary spoke to Oggi Sport Notizie, making it clear that Liverpool could now keep hold of the Brazilian beyond this summer.

Revealing Andoni Iraola’s stance, he said: “It must be remembered that Liverpool have changed their manager. Iraola probably wants to take a look at everyone. Alisson only has one year left on his contract.

Lavelle made it clear Alisson had an agreement over personal terms with Juve. Despite that, the Old Lady made a ridiculous offer to sign him.

“I know he’s reached a personal agreement with Juventus. The Brazilian is worth around €15m or so, and the Bianconeri entered the race for this goalkeeper with a brazen offer. I don’t know if the Juventus management offered €7m to Liverpool just because he’s in the final year of his contract.

“Despite that, he’s undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and Liverpool would like to keep him. Players of the calibre of Salah and Van Dijk are about to leave, and you need an older player in the dressing room. I think the Reds want to keep him for that reason.”

Our take: Reds under no pressure for sale

Alisson was injured for a chunk of the season but he has returned to action for Brazil at the World Cup. He remains one of the best keepers in the world and it wouldn’t have made sense for Liverpool to sell him for such a discounted fee.

With Mohamed Salah gone, Liverpool wouldn’t want to lose another leader who can guide the younger generation. Besides, Iraola’s arrival presents a transition period for the club and keeping players like Alisson should help make the process easier.
