Travelling today to sign for Tottenham – Left out of squad, on way to London

On Saturday, Aston Villa eliminated Tottenham Hotspur from the FA Cup. The two clubs have also been battling off the pitch for Atlético Madrid’s Conor Gallagher, and Spurs should win this won.

Two days ago, Marca reported Aston Villa could sign the midfielder in the winter market, by offering around €30m to Atlético.

Tuesday’s edition of the same newspaper reports Tottenham have overtaken Aston Villa in race to sign the England international.

Marca explain Aston Villa have had interest in the 25-year-old for a long time. Thomas Frank’s side will now win the transfer battle if there are no last-minute surprises.

Spurs are ‘very close’ to securing the former Chelsea man’s services for €40m. According to Marca, this is a ‘significant sum for a player who hasn’t settled in’ at Atlético.

It makes sense considering they explained the La Liga side may even accept €30m for him. The newspaper claim this operation could be finalised in the coming hours.

Tuesday’s edition of AS echoes Marca’s claim and their title reads: ‘Gallagher will complete his move to Tottenham today.’

Within the report, AS state several Premier League sides battled for Gallagher this month. On Monday, Aston Villa made advances by reaching a verbal agreement.

Tottenham set for double transfer joy

The Villans wanted to take the Atlético player on loan [€5m loan fee] with a €30m buying obligation. Tottenham managed to get ahead of their Premier League rivals by offering a better deal to both Gallagher and [€40m to] Los Rojiblancos.

Atlético will face Deportivo de La Coruña in the Copa de Rey later today and Gallagher will not be in the squad for the cup tie. That’s because AS state he will soon travel to London to finalise his move to Tottenham.
