Effort for Brentford star blocked by ‘transfer restrictions’ – Bees wouldn’t play ball
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessNapoli attempted to sign Brentford star Kevin Schade at the end of the January transfer window but were blocked by ‘transfer restrictions’.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb. The website reports on the matter and explain why it didn’t happen.
According to their information, Napoli have been tracking Schade for some time. He was already in their sights a year ago. They’re not the only Italian side who’ve looked at him.
But Napoli’s interest picked up moving into January after he scored a hattrick against Bournemouth. They moved forwards with their interest and negotiated a deal with Brentford, but a deal couldn’t be finalised.
That was due to transfer restrictions on the Neapolitan club. Napoli had proposed a loan with an obligation to buy. This was turned down by Brentford. The Italian club could not propose a different deal as Serie A have put restrictions that insist, they can only fund purchases by selling existing players.
Napoli, then, turned their interest to Sporting’s Alisson Santos. He arrived on a deal that fitted into the restrictions. It’s a deal that Napoli have done before and worked for them.
But it only happened after a move for Schade at Brentford was completely ruled out. The Bees, it seems, were completely uninterested in letting Schade depart if they weren’t being paid immediately.
