National team refusing to comment on Leeds United player drama – Monday press conference could add more

by · Sport Witness

The Swiss Football Association are currently refusing to comment on developing conflict between Leeds United forward Noah Okafor and manager Murat Yakin.

That’s according to Tages-Anzeiger, who cover the situation today. They report that the Swiss FA are remaining tight-lipped on the matter for the time being.

Okafor is currently out of the picture for his county after a public falling out with Yakin. That happened during Euro 2024, when the Leeds man reportedly angered his manager by bringing a third party to a meeting about his situation. He sat on the bench for the rest of the tournament.

His last appearances for his country was now nearly a year ago, against Spain in a UEFA Nations League clash on November 18th, 2024.

Okafor publicly questioned that in a big interview this week, admitting that the situation made him sad. That led to Yakin responding to the comments. He insisted Okafor needs to perform at Leeds before he can come back into the fold.

Their fractured relationship appears unlikely to be fixed soon. And it seems the Swiss FA aren’t getting involved yet either. According to Tages-Anzeiger, they’re refusing to comment on the matter.

Instead, they are pointing a media conference set to be held by national team director Pierluigi Tami on Monday. The suggestion is that he will comment on the matter at that point. The drama, then, might not be done with yet.
