PSV consider signing Leeds United player – He feels committed to Whites for now
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessLeeds United’s Joël Piroe could be an option for PSV Eindhoven in the winter market.
That’s according to De Telegraaf journalist Jeroen Kapteijns, and he talks about the Leeds United player on the Kick-off poscast. Voetbal Primeur have relayed his comments.
The striker knows the Eredivisie side well as he spent seven years at PSV before leaving them for Swansea City in 2021. Two years later, he moved to Leeds United. Last May, the 26-year-old said he’ll always be open to returning to the Dutch club.
PSV manager Peter Bosz is short of options up front. Alassane Pléa and Myron Boadu have been on the sidelines and now Ricardo Pepi has joined them in the treatment room. The latter picked up an injury at the weekend and could be out for several weeks.
Pepi’s setback could also be a blow for Fulham, who have already tabled a €25m bid for him. The American’s injury may force the Eredivisie side to look for a new striker in this window. This is where Piroe comes into the picture.
Leeds United player has great attitude
Daniel Farke has handed him just over 200 minutes from 10 Premier League matches this season. Last week, the player expressed his for more minutes but refused to push for a move. Indeed, Piroe sounded very professional and displayed a great attitude.
That hasn’t stopped Kapteijns from naming the Leeds United attacker as an emergency solution for PSV in January.
“Last year it was the end of January, and Pepi injured his knee. It ended up being Lucas Perez. That wasn’t a success. Hopefully, they’ll have more success with their stopgap measure now, because that’s what it is, of course,” he said.
“One name that was also mentioned is Piroe, who is obviously playing less at Leeds United. With the World Cup in mind, it might be beneficial for him to play a bit more for those play-off matches,” he said.
Piroe, who represented the Netherlands at youth levels, has changed his allegiance to Suriname. The De Telegraaf journalist isn’t certain whether the Whites would let him leave this month.
“But he [Piroe] is settling in very well at Leeds United, where he’s had some fantastic years. As things stand now, Piroe primarily wants to keep competing at Leeds. And Leeds isn’t necessarily keen to lose him. But they’ll explore those options,” Kapteijns explained.
