‘Irrevocable decision’ – Surprise as Tottenham slam exit door shut after talks
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessOn December 28th, Radu Drăgușin came off the bench in Tottenham Hotspur’s league win over Crystal Palace.
This was the Romania international’s first appearance since he suffered a serious injury a year ago. Prior to that, Drăgușin’s agent Florin Manea had talked about the possibility of him leaving Tottenham in the winter market.
Fiorentina showed interest but saw immediate rejection from the centre-back. AS Roma then came forward. Last weekend, Manea said he and his client were waiting for Tottenham to give the green light to secure a move to Roma.
Three days ago, Corriere dello Sport reported the 23-year-old is putting immense pressure on Thomas Frank’s side to secure an exit. On Thursday, the same newspaper reported he wants to leave Spurs and doesn’t want to come back.
The Premier League side haven’t given their approval and Calciomercato.it now cover the latest on Roma’s chances of securing his services.
Tottenham signed Drăgușin from Genoa in January 2024. He spent over five years in Italy at Juventus, Sampdoria, Salernitana and Genoa before arriving at the north London club.
The player is keen on returning to Serie A in this window and has his heart set on joining Roma. Their manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, highly rates the Tottenham defender.
Tottenham may have bargaining stance
Calciomercato.it have found out from their own sources that Frank’s side have ‘closed the door’ on Drăgușin joining the Giallorossi in January. They further add there’s no scope for reconsideration as the ‘decision is irrevocable’.
Therefore, the Italian capital club have to look for other options if they wish to provide Gasperini fresh options in the defence.
Although Drăgușin has regained full fitness, he’s not assured a starting spot at Spurs. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are currently the first choice centre-back pairing for Frank.
Whether this is a bargaining stance from Tottenham remains to be seen.
