“Interest has been there” – Wolves player still on radar after January attempts

by · Sport Witness

In January, the Italian press appeared sure of Napoli’s agreement over personal terms with Wolves’ Joao Gomes. This was covered extensively by Sport Witness, as the midfielder ended up staying in England.

Napoli never reached an agreement with the Midlands club over a deal, and it always looked like a complicated transfer for January.

There was belief the situation would attract other clubs, with Atletico Madrid and Manchester United seen as possible suitors.

Despite that, it doesn’t seem as though Napoli have given up on the midfielder.

Napoli still in for Wolves star

The 25-year-old’s situation is attracting attention once again. Journalist Luca Marchetti spoke to Radio Marte about his future, making it clear that Napoli can still be an option for him.

Speaking of the Wolves man, the Italian said – relayed by TuttoNapoli: Wolves midfielder  Gomes is an interesting name, on Napoli’s radar for some time, when they were looking for a midfielder.”

Marchetti explained it’s too early to predict if the player will end up in Naples or not.

“Of course, it’s difficult to say whether they’ll sign him in July; it’s too early, but the interest has been there for some time.”

In the January transfer window, the Partenopei didn’t improve their midfield. They focused more on attack, replacing Noa Lang and Lorenzo Lucca. This could make a big midfield signing possible in the summer.

Competition likely for Napoli

Considering how Gomes’ stature has grown at Wolves, Napoli are unlikely to have an easy task.

His current deal at Molineux runs out in the summer of 2030, which suggests that a transfer will cost a lot. Napoli do spend big but only on rare occasions.

So if they really want Gomes, they will have to lay down the foundations of their move. Or competition from other clubs will prove to be a big threat, especially if Wolves sell the player. An agreement over personal terms can definitely prove key in this situation.
