Preference for sale to Manchester United – Red Devils’ €45m will seal summer transfer

by · Sport Witness

Manchester United’s need for a midfielder has been clear for a while.

While Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro have been performing well recently, that part of the pitch is a concern for Michael Carrick’s side. The need will be even more critical when the Brazilian leaves, with Manuel Ugarte also heading towards the exit door.

In the last few days, Sport Witness have covered Manchester United’s interest in Atalanta’s Ederson.

They have been monitoring the Brazil international for well over a year now. Initial contact was made back in 2024 and Ederson’s exit from Bergamo is very much on the cards this summer.

His contract at Atalanta runs out in 2027 and the Italian club are now trying to get the best deal possible.

Preference for sale to United

TuttoSport report Juventus are keeping a close eye on Ederson in their own hunt to improve their midfield. Any move for the player will be difficult due to Manchester United’s involvement.

Carrick’s side have made ‘several moves’ to sign Ederson already and are ‘pushing hard’ to beat competition from Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish side reached an agreement over personal terms with the player’s entourage. But their €35m offer wasn’t enough for Atalanta, who would now prefer a sale to Manchester United.

The Old Trafford club are thought to be willing to pay €45m and this will prove enough to sign the 26-year-old.

Our take: Move would make sense

A move to Old Trafford will make sense for all parties.

Ederson is mainly a number eight and can also play deeper in midfield. He is a very reliable receiver but also thrives in playing quickly between the lines. He is also adept at making late runs in the final third and scoring important goals.

If he doesn’t start, he will be a very reliable squad player. That’s why it makes more sense for Ederson to be the second midfield signing instead of a direct Casemiro replacement.
