“That convinced” – Agent confirms Arne Slot key to Liverpool securing transfer
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessFlorian Wirtz’s father, and agent, Hans Wirtz, has admitted that Arne Slot was key to his move to Liverpool this summer.
BILD cover comments from Wirtz senior today after he appeared in the ZDF football magazine Bolzplatz. In that he discusses Wirtz’s move to Liverpool this summer, his struggles since and why he’s convinced his son will come good at Anfield.
Wirtz was one of the major transfers of the summer window. He joined Liverpool in a €136m deal from Bayer Leverkusen following months of speculation about his future.
He had been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich in that, with the German giants very much expecting him to arrive at some point.
Instead Wirtz left them stumped when he elected to move to Liverpool instead. Reports stated that had come about after Liverpool had convinced him and his team during face-to-face meetings.
Slot was a key part of that. Those same reports indicated it was him who had fully convinced the German with his pitch to him. Hans Wirtz has now confirmed that was very much the case.
“It was exciting for him to join a team that has undoubtedly grown and, in addition to him, has also made one or two new signings,” he said.
“And all of them of a corresponding quality. All of that was quite exciting for him. It was important that Arne Slot spoke with Florian. He explained his value to him, including his value to the future team, and how he envisions the collaboration. And that convinced Florian.”
