Close attention paid to Ipswich Town’s season – Desperation growing for permanent transfer
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessAfter doing well in the Premier League last season, Jens Cajuste returned to Ipswich Town last summer. Napoli are now keeping a close eye on how the Championship season will end.
The Swede played 30 times in the Premier League during the 2024/25 campaign, becoming an important player for Kieran McKenna. In the going season, he’s played 29 times in the Championship, contributing to five goals.
Earlier in the campaign, Sport Witness covered significant praise for the midfielder. This came right after he impressed in a league game against West Brom.
While he has been on the bench a few times in recent weeks, Ipswich Town may not have a say in his long term situation. This would turn out to be the case if they earn promotion to the English top-flight.
AreaNapoli take a look at Napoli’s stance, as they are growing desperate for his permanent exit.
Napoli want the money
The outlet note how Napoli are keeping a close eye on the Championship. They are hoping Ipswich Town earn promotion, with Coventry City having sealed their return to the Premier League already.
They make it clear that if McKenna’s side go up, their obligation to buy for Cajuste will be exercised. A loan fee of €2m was already paid in the summer, with the obligation to buy sitting at €7.5m.
Desperation is growing for that money, as it will help Napoliquite a bit. They saw Cajuste struggle in Italy during the 2023/24 season, forcing them to part ways with him only a season after his arrival.
Ipswich Town might not be too keen
Against Middlesbrough, Cajuste wasn’t even in the squad and this was also true against Norwich, who Ipswich Town didn’t have problems against.
The 26-year-old’s prominence is reducing. Napoli obviously won’t mind that, if McKenna takes his club back to the Premier League.
It allow them the comfort of not having to lose other key players and some leverage to sign important targets. As for Ipswich Town, they might already be looking at possible suitors for Cajuste, ahead of the summer window.
