Leeds United want another signing in before exit – DoF happy to play along
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessSebastiaan Bornauw’s potential move from Leeds United to FC Koln is likely to be a last-minute affair this month.
That’s according to BILD. They report on the striker today and Koln’s willingness to wait until the end of the January transfer window.
The newspaper reports that BILD haven’t given up hope of signing their former player yet. He was originally targeted to help solve a defensive crisis, but that’s now eased. Thus, there’s no rush to get him.
Bornauw’s situation at Leeds hasn’t improved though. After being suddenly needed at the turn of the year, now he’s gone back to a stop-gap role. BILD say subs appearances will have ‘felt like humiliations’ and led to more frustration for the Belgian.
That means the opportunity is still there for FC Koln. However, a lightning-fast move isn’t on the cards. While Bornauw would ‘readily agree’ to the move, Leeds want a replacement first. They’re not moving quickly on that front.
Leeds United clearly not rushing transfer exit
That’s echoed by sporting director Thomas Kessler, who admits they’re willing to wait until the end of the month for deals.
“We still have just under two weeks,” he said.
“We’ve already initiated a few things, but there’s always a club involved that might say: ‘I don’t want to let the player go after all.’ There are always developments where one or another player ends up getting more playing time.
“We’ve done our homework and are keeping a very close eye on things. And then we’ll see what happens in the next two weeks.”
Cologne, therefore, are leaning towards a last-minute deal for the Leeds defender. They’ll have to be careful, though, as there are other Bundesliga suitors. An exit from Elland Road is on the cards, but at the last minute it seems.
