Maxence Lacroix: Information from France on Crystal Palace player injury
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessOn Thursday, Crystal Palace suffered a 2-1 defeat to Fiorentina in the UEFA Conference League.
Despite the defeat, the Eagles secured a berth in the semi-finals of the competition, thanks to a 3-0 win in the first leg at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace’s progress to the next round came at a cost as both Maxence Lacroix and Adam Wharton suffered injury setbacks.
Jefferson Lerma came on to replace Wharton in the 30th minute. A few minutes later, the centre-back collided with his Crystal Palace teammate, Daniel Muñoz.
The France international ended up hurting his knee and Chadi Riad replaced him in the 41st minute.
After the match, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner said the defender’s injury must be painful.
“Maxence was foot to foot contact. Then he felt his knee, the medial ligament, so let’s see but it is painful,” he said.
Update from France on Crystal Palace player
Last November, the defender’s entourage made it clear he’s aiming to represent Les Bleues at the World Cup.
His impressive performances for Crystal Palace helped him make his debut for France during the last international break. He’s played two matches and would be in contention to make it Didier Deschamps’ squad for the World Cup.
Maxence Lacroix being forced to leave the pitch on Thursday raised some concerns in France.
Le Parisien play down any worry of a serious setback, and their title states his substitution against the Serie A side yesterday was ‘as a precaution’.
Within the report, the newspaper makes it clear it’s their own information, and states the knee pain is due to a ‘minor collision’.
Eagles defender shouldn’t be out for long
Crystal Palace face West Ham United in the Premier League clash on Monday. There’s no indication or suggestion whether the Frenchman would be to face the Hammers.
It’s unclear whether Maxence Lacroix will be available for Crystal Palace’s next fixture. However, he is unlikely to be out for long as it’s a ‘minor collision’.
The Eagles have six Premier League and at least two Conference League matches left this season. Oliver Glasner’s side take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the semi-final of the European competition in May.
