Everton assess right-sided targets – 2 new options chosen
by Pedro Reinert · Sport WitnessEverton are assessing right-back options during the January window and have turned their attention to Serie A, according to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Premier League side are actively looking for a right-sided full-back or wing-back, with Everton manager David Moyes keen to add depth and competition in that area of the squad. As part of that process, two names from Italy have emerged as candidates.
One of them is Emil Holm, who currently plays for Bologna. The Swedish defender has featured nine times in Serie A this season. Despite limited starts, he has contributed one goal and four assists, numbers that stand out for a player operating primarily from full-back.
The other option under consideration is Brooke Norton-Cuffy, an English right-back on the books at Genoa. Norton-Cuffy has been more regularly involved, making 18 league appearances so far. He has registered one goal and one assist, while continuing to gain senior experience in Italian football.
The 21-year-old came through the academy at Arsenal, which means he qualifies as a homegrown player under Premier League regulations. Also, he is a regular in England’s Under-21 setup, further underlining his standing within the domestic system.
Everton evaluating multiple options
At this stage, the situation is described in Italy as an evaluation rather than a concrete move. Everton are weighing profiles and availability, with no indication yet of formal talks or bids. How quickly that assessment turns into action remains to be seen.
An earlier report from Spain stated Everton are hesitating over Juanlu Sanchez.
