“Perfect fit for Rangers” – Official on impending move to Ibrox, announcement on way
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessRangers completed the signing of Tochi Chukwuani on Sunday. Danny Röhl’s side are still looking to bring in further new faces to Ibrox in the winter market.
As part of that process, Rangers have identified KVC Westerlo’s Tuur Rommens as a target for defence. Five days ago, we covered claims from Belgium that his move to Ibrox is in the final phase. The left-back was with the Jupiler Pro League side at a training camp in Turkey.
Het Nieuwsblad now state Röhl’s side and Westerlo have reached an agreement for the Belgian’s permanent transfer for €4m.
The newspaper claim the 22-year-old has already left Turkey and travelled to Glasgow to complete his move to Rangers. The Belgian club are now waiting for ‘white smoke from Ibrox’.
In other words, Westerlo feel they have sorted out all the details of this operation. They are now waiting for Rangers to make Rommens’ signing official.
Westerlo manager Issame Charaï had a short spell at Rangers last year. He joined them as Philippe Clement’s assistant and remained at Ibrox after the latter’s exit in February 2024.
Player is perfect fit for Rangers
Charaï eventually left the Scottish club at the end of last season. He has now confirmed Rangers contacted him to ask about his current player. The Westerlo boss has backed the fullback to become a fan favourite at Ibrox.
“Did they contact me? Of course. [Laughs] And no, I didn’t tell them to wait another six months. I’ve always been very honest and transparent and can only say positive things about Tuur,” he said.
“In terms of character, he’s a perfect fit for Rangers. A player who is physically strong, gets his shirt wet, isn’t afraid of challenges, and enjoys going off the line. The fans will love him, and I expect they’ll soon be singing his praises. It’s simply a perfect match.”
