“Entitled to be angry” – Tottenham player on fan frustration and booing Thomas Frank

by · Sport Witness

Pedro Porro says Tottenham Hotspur fans have every right to express their frustration over Spurs’ recent poor results.

The Spain international was speaking to AS on Tuesday. He understands the supporters’ disappointment over how Tottenham’s season has progressed under Thomas Frank.

Spurs appointed the Dane as Ange Postecoglou’s successor in June. Frank has managed 33 matches so far and Tottenham have won 12 of them, including one in the EFL Cup.

On November 4th, the north London club secured a 4-0 victory over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League. Since then, they played 16 matches in all competitions, winning only four of them.

This includes a 2-0 win over Brentford in December. After that match, Porro expressed his “unconditional love” towards the Premier League side’s supporters.

Frank’s side ended their five-match winless streak with a 2-0 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. First half goals from Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke were enough for Spurs to secure a crucial win.

The 26-year-old right-back was awarded Player of the Match award after the tie, he spoke to Spanish newspaper AS.

On Tottenham’s win over BVB, he said: “Very happy. We were coming off some bad results in the league, so these three points today are very important. They also help boost the team’s confidence a bit. We’re fourth in the top eight and we just have to finish it off in the last match in Germany. And on Saturday, we continue in the league.”

AS asked the fullback how he experienced fans booing Frank and their frustration over Spurs’ recent poor results.

“Yes, it’s important to win because you look at bad spells differently. I also think that’s just how football is. When you don’t get results, people have their opinions and they’re perfectly entitled to be angry,” Porro explained.

“Obviously, we always try to give our best, but sometimes things don’t go your way and you have to keep working so that, above all, they do, like today.

“In an important match, when we needed the three points the most, the fans were with us, and with the coach too, and that’s the most important thing. To stay together and focused on this path, because we still have a lot to achieve.”
