Player’s father unhappy at Liverpool transfer failure – Intermediaries trying to set up PL move

by · Sport Witness

Liverpool attempted to sign Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries in January. All hope might not be lost for the Reds, with the wing-back pushing for a move to England.

The Dutchman had missed many games due to an injury earlier this season.

That is also when Liverpool came forward for him. Sport Witness covered the approach, with Inter CEO Beppe Marotta also going public about the move.

A deal never went through, probably because Inter couldn’t find a replacement in time.

Some background around Dumfries is now emerging and it seems like those around him are pushing for a Premier League transfer.

Dumfries has England dream

Calciomercato IT go deeper into the 29-year-old’s situation, making it clear that Dumfries’ father was unhappy when the move to Liverpool fell through.

Since the Nerazzurri wing-back left Wasserman, it is his father Boris who is his only agent. And since then, he has been trying to help his son secure a ‘dream’ move to England.

He has instructed agents and intermediaries to achieve that goal too.

Jorge Mendes and Ali Barat are also at work and they tried to place him in the Premier League in January. This led to Liverpool coming forward and there is every chance something happens in the summer too.

Despite that, Inter are sleeping soundly. They won’t mind losing him and would even accept around €20m to sell him, despite his release clause standing at €25m.

This should give hope to the Reds, who could be approached again in the summer.

Our take: Liverpool might not need Dumfries

The Netherlands international has actually done quite well since returning from injury. He scored a brace in the league game against Como, leaving Inter with one hand on the title.

That doesn’t mean he will be ideal for Liverpool, though. He is more of a wing-back who operates in the final third, thriving on making runs.

The Reds do need a right-back but Dumfries has defensive weaknesses. A deal for him will be cheap but tactically, he does have a lot of areas that need to be ironed out. That is why there could be better and younger options in the market for Arne Slot’s side.
